White With 1 June

Did you know that Charms Creations are a sponsor for White With 1 this month?! So, I thought I had better make sure I did this challenge and it is such a gorgeous colour too, Biscay Bay, a beautiful blue to remind us of summer in these colder winter months!

So this is what I ended up with:

I found that the new distress ink Mermaid Lagoon was a pretty good colour match so started with creating my background. I used a new stencil that I picked up at the Craft Show by Stencil Girl and used it with gesso on my background. Once dry I swiped my ink pad onto a piece of plastic bag and spritzed with water and painted onto the stenciled area, I love how the gesso resists the ink. I wiped over the gesso area with a baby wipe afterwards to clean it up a bit too.

I have some older Heidi Swapp watercolour shapes that I coloured up with the ink, I also used this as my title.

This one is one of the Heidi Swapp resist shapes (colour magic I think?!)  They came up a treat with the ink.

Of course I had to use a Charms Creations on my page. I chose a white felt star and layered it with a coloured star that I stapled on for interest.

The only other addition was some black stripe washi tape for contrast and some enamel dots to finish.

Oh and the little cutie is my nephew! I think he is on his way to being a ladies man!

Make sure you check out the WW1 challenge and inspiration and maybe you can win some Charms Creations too!

Off the Rails June Guest Designers

Not only have Charms Creations been guest designers for Kraft+ this month we are also guests over at Off the Rails Scrapbooking! This month their challenge is quite a challenging inspiration board, and to be honest it threw me a little. I think the colours were not quite my thing, but there is nothing like a good challenge to get you going!

And this is what I finished with:

So where did I start with this one, well, the colours (more or less!) and the family theme.

I coloured a DIY Charms Creations with distress ink to have it match as best I could and it turned out beautifully. To do this I swiped the ink pad on my craft mat a couple of times and spritzed with water, then I dragged the heart through to cover. After I did this I used the ink pad directly on the edges to deepen some of the colour.

I decided to add some wood veneer people, which was inspired by the paper cut out people on the board.

And lastly I also decided to make my own hand drawn heart using the end of the sprayer in my mist bottle to draw with. This kind of looks like the chalk drawn hearts on the board too.

So, there you have it, my take on this rather challenging inspiration board!

Make sure you go over and look at the other designers inspiration and maybe challenge yourself to have a go too!

Scrap the Girls - June Challenge

Good Morning!

So, after a crazy long weekend helping out Craft Queen at the Papercraft's Show, where I also got to meet many of my FB friends for the first time, I needed some recovery time!

But now, I am back into the swing of things and have a page to share. I decided to try my hand at the current Scrap the Girls challenge which this month is a gorgeous mood board.

Now the colours are obviously the first thing that catches your eye, but I was also drawn to the radial patterns on the saucer in the picture of the crockery. And based on that this is what I came up with:

I used my new Scrap FX stencil both as a stencil and a stamp to create my background with some beautiful HS Colour Shine (Raspberry and Peach). A little bit of patterned paper layering to mat the photos and the page was almost done!

Charms Creations is a sponsor of Scrap the Girls this month, so of course I had to add in one from my collection and this hot pink mini arrow was perfect, topped with a little white butterfly button from D-lish Scraps. I layered these on a die cut flower from an Amy Tan collection that seemed to be the perfect colours and also fit in with the cushion in the mood board.

Splashes of black really add some drama to a page like this, so I painted some chipboard feathers (from a just add paper kit from D-lish Scraps) and added them under a flair button. The feathers also feature on the mood board!

Another bit of painted chipboard for the title (also from the same kit) and my page was completed!

So, there you go, a challenge for June done and dusted. I am hoping to get another one done if I can!

Another Scrapbooking Memories Magazine Share

Wow, the months keep rolling around. Pages keep being created and articles written! I can't believe that I am getting ever so close to finishing my time of writing the How To: Graphic articles for Scrapbooking Memories Magazine.

Now that they have been out for a little while, I thought I would share another couple of pages from one of these articles, it was from Vol 17 No12 and the article was about my favourite things to scrap with.

These are the pages that I created:

Can you see the things in common? My favourite things?

D-lish Scraps round up for May

Well, with May finished, that means I have finished my blog posts for D-lish Scraps for the month and now I thought I would share them here too.

My first share was a page based on a sketch in the current cyber crop, and there is still time to join in if you haven't. Details are on the blog post here if you want to find out more.

So here is the sketch created by Linda:

And this is what I came up with:

I used a great new Scrap FX stencil to create my circular background and some pretty Heidi Swapp colour shine.

For my next share I decided to show how to take advantage of an inked up stencil and create a negative image to use on your page. So you can see how I kind of stamped the stencil onto a clean piece of cardstock and created an almost doily like background to start my page with. The full details for this page can be found here.

My last share for the month I decided to do something a little different and decorated a gift box. It is so easy to make a gift look amazing with a few supplies and a little thought. The full details are here.

Thanks for stopping by and catch you next time.

Scrap the Boys - June

Can you believe that we are in June already?! No, well neither can I! Another year just seems to be flying by in a flurry of routine and activity.

But, a new month means new challenges and I am sharing my sample for the new Scrap the Boys challenge. This month is a sketch, I love a sketch, it takes some of the decision making away and makes creating a little simpler!

So here is the wonderful sketch:

And here is my take on the sketch:

I just love how this one turned out. I had great fun playing with some techniques and the page has ended up being so fun!

You  have to love it when you have the perfect embellishment for your page! And this Charms Creation star was the perfect colour!

I have been using my motex for titles a bit lately. I like that you can do a smaller and more subtle title this way, sometimes that is all you need! My motex writer and tape came from D-lish Scraps if you haven't got one already!

One of the techniques that I played around with on this page was using gesso as a resist medium. I used the gesso over a ScrapFx stencil and then added some distress ink swiped on a plastic bag and misted with water to create my water colour feel over the top. Remember start with the lighter colour and let it dry before adding the next colour over the top if you don't want the colours to mix and blend. I also stamped in these colours around the page for some more interest.

So, that is my creation for Scrap the Boys this month. Make sure you head over and check out the inspiration and have a go yourself, I mean it is sketch, how much easier do you want it to be?!

Kraft + Guest Designer for Charms Creations

So, have you checked out the new challenge over at Kraft+ yet? This month the challenge is to go wild in the jungle and use circles (and kraft too of course!).

And as Charms Creations is sponsoring two of the team got to share their pages as guest designers, and mine is up!

Now, given how much I love the big cats, it was a no brainer on what kind of wild path I went down! And Charm even made some awesome animal print goodies to go with the challenge.

For the circle background I used my Silhouette to cut some circles of different sizes out of my kraft cardstock and I distressed the edges and backed with big cat print (some of which I printed myself from free files). I also punched some circles out of the same papers, distressed the edges and placed them around overlapping the background circles, some were mounted on foam too for more dimension. With such a busy background I didn't need much more. Just my photos, my Charms tiger print embellishments, title and journaling and I was pretty much done!

A close up of one of the tiger print Charms Creations, awesome isn't it?!

And the other one, perfect for this challenge! And there are more, zebra print and hearts with animal print butterfly buttons! You need to check them all out here.

All the photos were taken at the Canberra Zoo when we visited last year. While we were there Niamh and I actually went in the enclosure with the cheetahs and were able to pet them, one even purred! We also all fed the white lioness. Just amazing creatures!

So, now you need to head off and create your own "In the Jungle" themed page for Kraft+ and join in the fun. You might even win some Charms Creations too!
